Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice president and is the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who fought for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. The path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her sharp examination of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
